Fan Art Shows What Pierce Brosnan Could Look Like as Cable in DEADPOOL 2

Earlier this week, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman posted photos of themselves hanging out with Pierce Brosnan. Why, you ask? I have no idea, but the fans went crazy and many of them were speculating that Brosnan is up for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2. Again, this is all just pure speculation, but I think Brosnan would be awesome in the role. It’s something he could easily pull off. Of course, there’s always the possibility that Reynolds and Jackman are just having fun trolling the fans.

After the talk of Brosnan possibly being cable spread like wildfire across the internet, Boss Logic whipped up the art above showing us what the actor could look like as the character, and I dig it. What do you all think?

These mysterious wallpapers make your iPhone dock disappear

iPhone fans around the world are still mourning the loss of the infamous black wallpaper, a special image that exploited an iOS glitch and caused the dock and folder backgrounds to disappear. It gave black and Jet Black iPhones in particular an awesome stealth look, and you can see it in action right here. Unfortunately, Apple fixed the glitch in iOS 10.2 and the wallpaper no longer works. It’s a bummer, but there are still other wallpapers that trigger fun iPhone glitches in Apple’s latest iOS software.

In addition to that last batch, the wallpaper wizard behind all of these nifty iPhone glitch wallpapers is back with a new collection of “Strange Dock” wallpapers that will make the dock at the bottom of your iPhone’s home screens disappear.

Twitter user “heyeased” has become well-known by Apple fans thanks to all of the unique wallpapers he creates. He was one of the first people to create wallpapers that took advantage of obscure iOS glitches to create cool effects. Now, he’s back with a fresh new batch of wallpapers.

This time around, the new wallpapers don’t actually take advantage of a glitch at all. Instead, they color-match the bottom of the wallpaper to the dock color so that the dock just blends in. It’s good thinking on heyseased’s part, and the results are great for people who like unique iPhone wallpapers and bright colors.

You’ll find all of the new wallpapers on this page on heyseased’s blog, and they’re designed to work with any iPhone model running iOS 10.2+. If you have an older version of iOS installed, you can head to this page. An image that shows all of the new wallpapers can be seen below.

Go Back to 1994 with Adam Sandler in the Trailer for His New Movie SANDY WEXLER

Adam Sandler used to make some really funny comedies in the ’90s. I loved watching his stuff back in the day, and I was a big fan. He’s now got a new Netflix movie coming out called Sandy Wexler that takes him back to those ’90s glory days. I haven’t really cared for any of his Netflix films so far, but this one does look like it captures the humor of Sandler from the ’90s, especially with the way he plays his character. I’m not expecting much, but it looks like it might be a funny movie.

The film follows Sandy Wexler (Adam Sandler), a talent manager working in Los Angeles in the 1990s, who diligently represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business. His single-minded devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with his newest client, Courtney Clarke (Academy Award® and Grammy® winner Jennifer Hudson), a tremendously talented singer who he discovers at an amusement park.

The Netflix original film was directed by Steve Brill (The Do-Over) and also stars Kevin James, Terry Crews, Lamorne Morris, Nick Swardson (The Do-Over), Rob Schneider, Jane Seymour, Carl Weathers, and Arsenio Hall.

Sandy Wexler will be released on Netflix April 14.

Meet the Redditors too stubborn to give up their exploding phones

If you’ve been vacationing with a remote community that has no contact with the outside world for the last six months, you might have missed the fact that Samsung’s most recent phablet has an unnerving tendency to catch fire. All reasonable human beings have returned their phones, as requested by Samsung, cell carriers, and the laws of common sense.

But it’s 2017, there’s an internet out there, and among the internet-dwellers are those who figure it’s a smart and adult decision to hang onto their toys with both hands, consequences be damned.

Samsung, and the cell carriers that sold the phone, have taken every reasonable step to take Galaxy Note 7 devices out of the wild. Owners have had ample opportunity to turn them in, and cell carriers are now forcing updates on the phone that prevent it from charging, or stop outgoing cell calls.

But that hasn’t stopped a few particular users from Reddit’s Galaxy Note 7 subreddit. The users take a peculiar delight in their objectively dumb decision, mostly rationalizing that the chances of their specific phone exploding is small, and anyway, they don’t go on airplanes all that often.

This is true. Despite the recall, the chances of one particular Galaxy Note 7 spontaneously combusting is relatively low, and using one is probably safer than driving on US roads.

Still, I won’t try and argue their case for them. As internet commenters, they’re perfectly capable of doing that themselves:

My new 🔥 headset. Bought all this for only $50. No SIM, no updates, no problems.

– ticktockaudemars

“I rarely fly, and when I do I don’t take the phone. I am a heavy S-pen user, and will not get stuck with old technology when a new one is on the horizon. What the company and carriers want is irrelevant… once a phone is bought it is no longer their property to decide.”

– Afflink

“Go away cry baby. Did you miss your nap time? I know that it is hard for you liberals to realize that some of us are capable of making our own decisions, but we are. Regardless of what the govt, Saumsung, or those running around on here crying their eyes out.”

– Osensnolf

Then, you’ve got all the threads of users trying to get around technological blocks. When it was first announced that Samsung would be pushing updates to brick devices, users started working out how to prevent updates and still use their phones.

Now that Verizon has begun blacklisting Note 7 devices from its network, users are discussing how to spoof the IMEI to pose as a different device on the cellular network.

To their credit, the majority of users on Reddit seem to have given up their phones, and are actively trying to get other people to do the same. But as per usual, a small minority of internet trolls seem determined to ruin it for everyone.

The Characters, Models, and Voice Actors of ARCHER

I always thought the characters of FX’s spy comedy Archer were loosely based on the actors who provided their voices. Chris Parnell looks a lot like Cyril, Aisha Tyler has a bit of a Lana vibe, and Jessica Walter definitely looks like Malory. But apparently there are entirely different people who provide the inspiration for the look of the show’s characters, and this handy chart from Reddit (via GeekXGirls) provides a nice comparison. Can you believe that the guy who does the voice of Krieger doubles as the model for Ray? Insanity!

Programming note: Archer moves from FX to its sister network FXX this season, and season 8 premieres at 10pm on April 5th.

All the ways Nintendo screwed up the Switch reveal (and how to fix them)

On Thursday, January 12th, Nintendo finally pulled the curtain back on its next home console: the Switch. As a detractor of the Wii U from the day it was unveiled, I was pleased to see that the company had seemingly veered back on course with the Switch — a hybrid home/portable console with some exciting ideas and one of the most anticipated launch titles in history. But then reality began to sink in.

As enthusiastic as I am for the hardware itself (as you can see in my hands-on report), it’s hard to look past all of the ways that Nintendo botched the reveal of a console that everyone wanted to like.

Below, I’m going to explore all of the ways that Nintendo bungled the reveal of a console that absolutely has to succeed, and provide some (potentially untenable) solutions for the company to consider.

1. The Price

Nintendo is asking consumers to pay $299 for an underpowered console that doesn’t even come with a charging controller. Both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One retail for $249 at the moment, and both have massive libraries of games that will only grow larger throughout 2017 and beyond.

Whatever Nintendo has to do to lower the price of the launch bundle, it should. Whether that means removing the non-charging Grip controller or selling the Switch Dock separately or throwing all the wrist straps into the ocean, the Switch simply isn’t competitive at $299, and never will be.

2. The Launch Lineup

This section probably deserves its own post, but I’ll try to be brief. At the time of writing, Nintendo has announced five retail games that will be available for the Switch on launch day. Five. I think I downloaded more than five games on my iPhone this weekend. To make matters worse, two of the launch games are ports, and only one actually looks anything like a triple-A console game:

  • 1-2 Switch ($49.99)
  • Just Dance 2017 ($59.99)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ($59.99)
  • Skylanders: Imaginators ($59.99)
  • Super Bomberman R ($59.99)

If Nintendo wants to convince anyone other than diehard fans to buy a Switch at launch, it needs to make 1-2 Switch a pack-in game. I won’t even go into the fact that 1-2 Switch looks like a collection of tech demos worth about $10, but to take it out of the bundle and sell it for $50 is criminal.

3. The Games

I know, we just talked about games, but the problem runs much deeper than the launch lineup. According to Nintendo, Only 23 games are currently scheduled to hit the Switch in 2017.

Of those, the only true exclusives are Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Super Bomberman R and Super Mario Odyssey, with the remainder of the list consisting of ports (I Am Setsuna, Minecraft, Skyrim), remasters (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Ultra Street Figher II) and indie games (Has-Been Heroes, Snipperclips).

Super Mario Odyssey could very well be the killer app for the Switch over the holiday season. Zelda might be massive enough to tide us over until the end of summer. But for now, it’s hard to see how the Switch is going to avoid the same fate as the Wii U, especially when things dry up completely in early 2018.

Thankfully, unlike many of these issues, Nintendo has time to address this one. No matter what it takes, Nintendo needs to come to E3 2017 with as full a slate of releases as it has had since the GameCube hit store shelves in 2001. If 2018 for the Switch is anything like 2016 was for the Wii U, it’s already over.

4. The Accessories

If you ever needed proof that Nintendo exists in an alternate reality, look at how much it charges for accessories. A set of Joy-Con controllers costs $79.99. A single Joy-Con controller, which you would only ever buy if you broke or lost one, costs $49.99. Yeah, you show ’em, Nintendo. Punish the idiots who break just one of their Joy-Con controllers by charging them an extra $10 to replace it.

What’s even more stunning than the price of the Joy-Cons — which are more expensive than a DualShock 4 or an Xbox One controller, despite the fact that they don’t come with an actual controller shell — is that the Grip that comes in the box of the $299 Switch can’t be charged. You have to take the Joy-Cons out of the Grip and slot them back into the Switch console to charge them, or pay $29.99 for Charging Grip.

5. The Online Service

Nintendo waited three months after revealing the Switch to actually talk about it. Presumably, this was because there were still elements of the console that needed to be finalized before the company would be ready to show it to the public. Somehow, even after the three months were up, Nintendo still hadn’t figured out the Switch’s online service is going to look like. All Nintendo knows for sure is that we’ll be paying for it.

Honestly, the fact that the Switch online service is paid instead of free doesn’t bother me all that much — it’s the industry standard, whether we like it or not. What does bug me is that Nintendo expects us to buy a gaming console in March 2017 that won’t have a full online service until fall 2017.

Here’s the kicker: Nintendo is going to do its own sort of PlayStation Plus/Games with Gold program and give away a free NES or SNES game every month to those who subscribe to the service. The games will even be updated with online play! Unfortunately, once the month is up, you can’t play the games anymore.

Another easy solution: let subscribers keep their NES games and figure out what you’re going to do with your online service before the console launches in March. You have a month and a half. Get to work.

I really like the Nintendo Switch. I dig the Joy-Con controllers, I love the improvements made to the Switch Pro Controller, I can’t believe I can play Mario Kart 8 on the go and I want to have one in my home on March 3rd. I just wish that Nintendo would stop finding ways to make desirable products undesirable.

The Nintendo Switch will be available on March 3rd for $299.99

Creepy New Photo From ANNABELLE 2

There used to be this creepy-ass doll in my family that we would scare the shit out of each other with. We’d hide it in places and sneak it in places where we’d unsuspectingly find it. It all started when I snuck into my brother’s bedroom while he was sleeping and placed it at the end of the bed sitting down staring at him. He woke up the whole house with the wonderful sounds of blood-curdling screams.

Anyway, this new photo that was released for the upcoming horror film Annabelle 2 reminded me of that. If I ever walked into my room at night and a doll like this was sitting up on my bed I’d take it and burn it. It would definitely send chills down my spine! I’m surprised that the poor girl in the photo isn’t shown running out screaming like my little brother did.

Annabelle 2 tells the tale of a dollmaker and his wife who, several years after the tragic death of their little girl, welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home. Very soon, however, they become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

The movie is being directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), and it stars Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Talitha Bateman (The 5th Wave), Lulu Wilson (upcoming Ouija 2, Deliver Us from Evil), Philippa Coulthard (After the Dark), Grace Fulton (Badland), Lou Lou Safran (The Choice), Samara Lee (Foxcatcher, The Last Witch Hunter), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace) and Miranda Otto (Homeland, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy).

Annabelle 2 is scheduled for release on August 11, 2017.

Former Android chief Andy Rubin to release a high-end iPhone competitor this year

The smartphone market would look a lot different today were it not for Andy Rubin. An exceptional engineer with a keen eye for knowing where the tech landscape is liable to shift, Rubin famously co-founded Android before the company was acquired by Google in 2005. With Rubin steering the Android ship, Google’s mobile OS quickly became a viable alternative to iOS before eventually becoming the most prevalent mobile OS on the planet.

In late 2014, Rubin left Google and has largely been out of the public eye ever since. While there were rumblings that Rubin was focused on building his own smartphone company, details about the rumored venture were few and far in between.

Now comes word via Bloomberg that Rubin’s smartphone project is not only real, but is impressively ambitious. Not content with releasing a run of the mill smartphone, Rubin is aiming to release an AI-based high-end premium device meant to compete with the iPhone and top-tier Android handsets like the Google Pixel.

Rubin’s new company is called Essential and is currently about 40 people deep, according to the report. In addition to releasing a smartphone, Essential is reportedly also working on developing a variety of other AI oriented consumer electronic products.

A platform company designed to tie multiple devices together, Essential is working on a suite of consumer hardware products, including ones for the mobile and smart home markets, one of the people said.

The centerpiece of the system is a high-end smartphone with a large edge-to-edge screen that lacks a surrounding bezel. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, Rubin discussed the smartphone with mobile carrier executives, including some from Sprint Corp., people familiar with the talks said.

One prototype of an Essential smartphone currently being worked on is said to sport a screen larger than the iPhone 7 Plus’ 5.5-inch display, albeit with a smaller footprint on account of its edgeless design.

If all goes according to plan, Essential is hoping to have a product available for purchase as early as June of this year.

Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, and Others Star in a Soap Opera Made Using Kanye West Lyrics

James Corden has been on fire lately! I swear he’s going viral more than Jimmy Fallon these days! That’s saying something considering the host of the Late Late Show seemed like the odd man out in an absolutely stacked competition for late night television shows. While I’ve enjoyed his carpool karaoke, his latest skit to go viral might be my favorite yet!

Corden, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Giovanni Ribisi, and Reggie Watts all team up for a soap opera with a twist! All of the dialogue in the sketch comes entirely from the songs of Kanye West. I tried my best not to laugh, but I lost it at the “You should be honored by my lateness” line, and it was all downhill from there!

Check out the sketch below.

GoFundMe page for Facebook Live torture victim has already raised $160,000

Last week, a Chicago woman took to Facebook Live in order to broadcast her and her friends brutally attacking, beating and torturing an 18-year-old man with special needs. The shocking story and accompanying graphic video sent shock-waves across the country and inevitably reached news stations across the globe.

Quickly after the video began circulating online, four individuals were arrested for their involvement in the attack and are currently being held without bail. All of the individuals involved, who range in age from 18 to 24, are being charged with felony aggravated kidnapping, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. They are also being charged with committing a hate crime on account of some racially-charged comments made by one of the assailants.

With the victim still struggling to recover from his traumatic experience, which included him effectively being held captive for 48 hours, a GoFundMe campaign for the victim has already generated more than $160,000, far more than the $10,000 the campaign was initially seeking.

“People from all 50 states have donated on the site,” the Chicago Tribune reports, “which was established last week by Reddit user Razor Sheldon. A company representative said GoFundMe will make sure the funds reach the 18-year-old’s family.”

Neal Strom, an attorney for the victim’s family, said that the money will immediately be used to help detect and subsequently deal with any manifestations of PTSD.
